About Charter Arms Bulldog

The Charter Arms Bulldog is a DA snub-nosed revolver introduced to the market in 1973. It was a top-selling revolver model during the 70’s and 80’s in the United States and it is considered as a trademark weapon of the Charter Arms. Its design and execution were quite modern at the time, which caught the attention of the gun press and combat shooters. So far, this revolver model was produced by four different gun manufactures. Production of the revolver has been discontinued a few times since 1992 reasoned by the bankrupt of Charter Arms (the original manufacturer), followed also by the Charco (descendant company of Charter Arms) trademark showing in addition obvious production flaws. The Charter 2000 introduced an improved version of the Bulldog later on, with a one-piece barrel, front sight, and ejector-shroud assembly unlike to the original model. It’s available with the barrel length of 2.2’’ or 2.5’’ The Bulldog is available in five different models in .44 Special and .357 Magnum calibers. All Bulldog models typically contain a cylinder of 5 shots. Currently, the revolver is available in its 14420, 74420 and 74421 versions. Charter’s Police Undercover model was built to resemble the Bulldog with the same frame model, but with a different caliber. The revolver was used by the famous character of the FBI Investigator Will Graham in the movie Manhunter and by the serial killer David Berkowitz (“Son of Sam”), who was responsible for a series of attacks and murders in New York during 1976-1977. Due to its small size without containing sharp edges, the Bulldog can be easily concealed and is ideal for a self-defense use.
